So Long, Doll (House)

So Long, Doll (House)
In a move that surprises virtually no one, FOX TV has canceled Joss Whedon's DOLL HOUSE, which starred Eliza Dushku and provided some much needed work for other Whedon regulars. After the way that FOX treated Whedon's far superior FIREFLY, he shouldn't have been surprised (and Whedon has never been a good fit for FOX; one encourages wit and literacy, while the other encourages stupidity, from its entertainment shows to its news division).

But let's not blame FOX: Whedon is actually to blame this time around, for creating such a lame TV series. Maybe he thought that by dumbing down the concept, writing and acting this tiome around, he'd have another hit. Whatever, it was obvious to me from the time this show was announced that it would be D.O.A. The only surprise at all is that FOX renewed it for a second abbreviated season.

We've certainly generated a lot of traffic with our DOLL HOUSE coverage, mainly because Eliza Dushku was willing to do anything to promote this show, including bare skin in photo gallery after gallery. This show was all wrong for her; remember when she donned glasses and pulled her hair back to play a librarian... or whas it a doctor? in the pilot? Talk about throwing your leading lady to the waolves.

Anyway, I'm sorry that Whendon and Dushku and all of those writers and directors and crew people are out of work, but I might actually be depressed if they'd delivered a show worth following every week.

Adios, Doll!
