1. Let's see, off the top of my head: Texas Chainsaw Massacre(74) Dawn of the Dead (78) Last House on the Left Suspiria Martin Frankenstein (1931),Dracula (1931) & Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931)(3-way tie) Island of Lost Souls The Exorcist Audition Devil's Rejects (I know I forgot plenty!)

2. I think Browning's DRACULA is a horrible film and BRIDE OF FRANKNESTEIN is nuch better than FRANKENSTEIN. I do love the '32 JEKYLL AND HYDE, though. SUSPIRIA, BRIDE and that would have made a Top 15 list for me,

3. Seven of your ten are from the seventies, you seventies man, you! Good picks, almost across the board. I'm not a big fan of CARRIE, though I can understand someone placing it in their top ten. I really don't even remotely like THE OMEN. Agreed on the Browning DRACULA--not a very good movie. I love BRIDE enough to make it a Top Ten pick, I think. NOSFERATU belongs there, as does Romero's MARTIN. Carpenter's THE THING. Never mind that it's not faithful to the novel: Kubrick's THE SHINING and terrifying. NIGHT, DAWN, and CHAINSAW are my top three--which is to say they each deserve the #1 spot. I wish we could insert paragraph breaks. Can you get the FZ code guys on that? :)

4. That's because the Seventies were gold! All of your picks would have made a slightly longer version of my list, especially NOSFERATU.

6. I love INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, but consider it SF even though it's frightening. Interesting that you rank BLACK CHRISTMAS so much (I know it's Canadian!). It's truly unsettling, and I always feel like I need a shower after I've watched it. I wrote an essay on it for a slasher film book that may finally see the light of day. I really like AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF but think it has a zero ending.
