Uwe Boll goes POSTAL!
EDITOR'S NOTE: I have never seen a Uwe Boll film. I understand a lot of people think they're terrible. But he does have fans. When a petition was circulated because Boll agreed to stop making films if enough people signed it, I declined to post it on Fear Zone because 1) this is a hard business, and whatever his talent, or lack thereof, I give him props for making a living where so many others have failed; and 2) it was an obvious publicity stunt, something Boll is more and more prone to participating in. Let the mainstream media be used by the different political parties--Fear Zone won't be "had"! But I found this petition, submitted by a friend in Germany, more interesting. Apparently, Boll has spread the word that U.S. distributors and theatres are "boycotting" Boll's new film, POSTAL, for its controversial nature. Following showbiz as I do, I find this difficult to believe, but I do love an underdog, and if Boll's fans want to try to secure a U.S. theatrical release for this, I'm happy to give them a platform. Think positive!

Go "Postal" and win some cool prizes!!

Sign the petition and tell the world that you want POSTAL, the gross and outrageous new comedy by the notorious German director Uwe Boll, to hit the big screens in the US.

It doesn't even take one minute to attach your signature and everyone who signs the petition will automatically enter a cool give-away!!

For more information on the give-away, please visit Metal Coven and to sign the petition please go to Going Postal

It's time to go postal... NOW!!

Now, in the interest of full closure, I must point out that this is a "general petition" that is not even aimed at any particular studio. But what the hell--it's a chance for Fear Zone readers to win some prizes. Once I committed to posting this petition drive, I had to learn more about the actual film. And I did...

It's about an average guy (Zack Ward) who lives in a trailer park and who's live totally sucks. He's got no job, his gargantuan wife cheats on him, his neighbors bully him and so on.

One day he visits his uncle Dave (Dave Foley), who is the head of a sect of religious fanatics. He cheated on his taxes and hence he's in need for money, too.

So the two of them decide to attack an Auschwitz theme park, that is about to be opened in town, and steal a truckload of rare Krotchy dolls (dolls that look like a penis) and sell 'em on ebay to make a fortune. The ship, that should bring the Krotchy dolls to America, did sink and hence only a few thousand of them have survived... and their the most popular toys in the world and sell for several $1,000 on ebay.

However, Osama and his fellows wanna steal the Krotchy dolls as well and poison 'em with Anthrax and then spread 'em across the US. So the religious fanatics and the Islamists both arrive at the Nazi theme park at the same time and get into a fight.

From that time on it's just madness and havoc... little children get killed in the crossfire, Verne Troyer gets raped by a horde of chimpanzees, Ralf Moeller has a threesome with the Postal Dude's wife and a black cop, who is a racist and so on... it's totally ridiculous, but also really funny.

The movie breaks just about any taboo there is. There's even a full frontal nude scene with Dave Foley showing his dick to the audience for more than a minute and then taking a dump right in front of the eyes of his subordinate. Osama Bin Laden and George W. happen to be best friends and in the end they even turn out to be a couple...

Uwe Boll also makes fun of himself in the flick. He plays the owner of the nazi theme park and all of a sudden Vince Desi, the guy who made the "Postal" video game, approaches him, aims a gun at him and shots him in the balls, yelling "For video games!". Uwe then collapses and dies... his last words are "I hate video games!".

All in all, the film is really fucked up and crazy, but I really laughed a lot while watching it (I've seen it four times already). And despite all the madness, it still has a very important and sincere message, namely that people should finally accept each other's differences and live in peace with each other instead of killing one another for political and religious reasons. "Postal" does not blame and ridicule a certain nation or religious group, but it points its finger at each and everyone and shows us that no one's really better than his neighbor. At least in my opinion it's really Uwe's best film so far... I hope he'll do some more flicks in that style. ;)

OK, I still don't believe there's an industry boycott against this film, despite the bin Laden/Bush subplot that is likely to offend millions of Americans. It just sounds too silly, too deliberately "cultish" for any distributor to invest time or money in. Remember--Troma's POULTRYGEIST couldn't get distribution either. In any case--look for an interview with Uwe Boll on Fear Zone in the new future!
