Thanksgiving is quickly approaching, and, like everyone, my mind is on horror. What? Your mind isn't? Well, it should be, after all, it's a time of scares and frights, don't we fight over who gets to 'carve' the turkey? And didn't the pilgrims spend most of their time wiping out the Indians? So, what time could mean horror and frights more than Thanksgiving?! And, in honor of this terrifying holiday, let's take a look at what hits DVD shelves today, shall we?
In RITUALS from Code Red, a group of doctors head out on a camping trip to the middle of nowhere on a Canadian mountain. Well, it's lucky they're doctors, because someone is following them, and I do believe that he's a dangerous ... (more…)

Alright, so it's a couple of weeks after Halloween and we're all having horror withdrawal! That's right, the whole world joins us for about a week and celebrates all things scary and gooey, but, the minute they get their candy, they all turn their backs on us! I'm beginning to think that these people are all horror posers...and I'm planning my revenge! But, I'll need something to inspire my revenge and nothing does that like a brand new horror movie, so, let's see what will be inspiring me this week!
First up, from Lionsgate, is a vampire movie with a bit more guts to it. It's NEAR DARK and if you haven't seen it, put down that damned Twilight DVD and grab this one! Caleb is a farm boy ... (more…)

November is here and soon, the slaughter of the turkeys will begin! That's right, October may have Halloween, the scariest time of year for us humans, but November has Thanksgiving, the most terrifying time of year for turkeys...imagine, having your friends pulled from your community, plucked, skinned and then having bread crumbs stuffed up their ass before being baked! Scary, right? Well, since it's a scary time of year, why not pile on with some cool horror DVDs? So, here's what hits shelves starting today!
First up, for you giant monster fans, it's SAND SERPENTS from Rhi Entertainment. A small group of Marines is stranded in a remote desert in Afghanistan...but it's not the Taliban ... (more…)

Happy, Happy Halloween...Silver Shamrock, to you all! That's right, it's the Tuesday before the 'big day' and I know all the ghouls and goblins are primed and ready to haunt the living hell out of everyone this Saturday. But, before you put on that mask and grab that pillowcase you want to fill with candy, how about something to put you in the mood? That's right, you have 3 more days before you can legally start trick or treating, so why not head down to the video store and grab a special treat? Here's what you have to choose from today.

It's October 20th and All Hallow's Eve moves every closer! Can you feel it, the darkness moving closer, the evil beginning to waken, the dumb-ass kids getting ready to egg your house? I can feel it! Well, let's take our mind off the egg cleaning that we'll be doing on November 1st and see what hits horror DVD today, shall we?
First up, from Sony Pictures is BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE, a live action version of the cult anime series. Saya is a half-human, half-vampire warrior who hunts vampires. When she's dispatched to an American military base, soon she'll face the deadliest vampire of her career. This was critically acclaimed when it hit theatres...but let's not hold that against it, I ... (more…)

It's Tuesday, October 13th...that's right, it's Tuesday the 13th, which is a lot like Friday the 13th, only earlier in the week. So, let's get our candy bags out, get out costumes on and head to the video store for a bit of early trick or treating...shall we?
First up, and much to the delight of you teeny-boppers out there, it's THE HAUNTED AIRMAN from E1 Entertainment. This stars Twilight's Robert Pattinson as a sexy flight lieutenant who's been wounded in action and is confined to a wheelchair. Since he's suffering from terrible nightmares and hallucinations, he's under the care of a psychiatrist, who he begins to suspect may be behind the nightmares. The only person he can trust is ... It's officially October, which means that finally, I get one month where people don't give me weird looks for wearing my costume around! Now, if we could only do something about the other 11 months, I mean, seriously, what's so wrong about dressing like Michael Myers and hanging around the mall? Is that some kind of crime? Well, the local police say it is...so I really look forward to October! And, there's also the bonus that it's a great month for horror DVD, so let's see how we'll be starting the scariest month of the year.

It's the last Tuesday in September, and things are heating up around here. That's right, as we enter October; everyone seems to want to jump on the horror bandwagon! Where are they all in April, when I'm looking for some cool horror movies??? Well, I guess I can stock up now, and save some for the spring. Who am I kidding? I'll buy them, watch them and then bitch when there's no fresh horror later...like I always do! Anyway, my complaining aside, here's what hits horror DVD starting today!

Paramount is going to start us off strong by releasing FRIDAY THE 13TH THE SERIES: THE FINAL SEASON. Fans of the paranormal...and Robey... will be flocking to stores!
Anchor Bay is bringing us the long awaited THE HAUNTED WORLD OF EL SUPERBEASTO from Rob Zombie today. In this adventure, Beasto and his sister must stop the marriage of Dr. Satan to an evil stripper. Let me just say this, Nazi Zombie Bikers. If you're like me, those three words ... (more…)

Well, September keeps moving on; here we are half way through it already! As the old folk say, any day above ground is a good one, and the best way to make any day better is with a horror DVD! So, let's dig out of our graves, and see what we can pop into our DVD players this week!
Universal is releasing the grand-daddy of all the werewolf movies this week, that's right, it's AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, in a 'Full Moon Edition', in both standard and blu-ray. I'm not sure what a 'full moon edition' is, but does it matter? Between John Landis' masterful direction and Rick Baker's cutting edge effects, this movie made me wet my pants in 1981 and I'll be putting on my depends to catch it ... (more…)
