Nothing else needs to be said--
except that Richard Kelly, the writer-director-creator of the ultra cool original DONNIE DARKO is not involved.
Lame, lame, lame. (more…)

THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR.
I didn't think they could come up with a worse title than the THE SCORPION KING.
I fell asleep during the original, though I understand it has its share of fans.
I refused to watch the sequel or CURSE OF THE SCORPION KING, but I loved the Universal Studios ride. Color me ambivalent.
Brendan Fraser returns. Rachel Weiscz does not. Maria Bello replaces her; maybe that's an improvement. Interestingly, Jet Li gets star billing over Fraser. Michelle Yeoh co-stars. Russel Wong (CHINA GIRL, VANISHING SON) has a role. Rob Cohen replaces Stephen Sommers as director.
Cohen has had a mixed bag career, but I often find myself rooting for him. His better films ... (more…)

As a former comic book geek, all I can say is, "Wow."
I'm surprised Warner Brothers let this one out. Don't you think the burning building has certain 9/11 connotations? I guess "enough time has passed" for Corporate America to allow filmmakers to present their characters and stories as they see fit. But you'd think Time Warner has enough controversy on its hands with Heath Ledger's recent death.
A stunning image, I think.
As always, double click on the image for a larger view. (more…)

How ironic--or fitting, or Hollywood--that on the same day I posted Vince. A. Liaguno's piece on Hollywood horror remakes, comes interesting news on THE INCREDIBLE HULK, the 2008 remake--reboot, re-imagining, whatever-- of Angle Lee's 2003 adaptation of the Marvel comic book. Universal spent $35 million developing the Hulk feature even before Lee was brought on board the project, and then they (or Marvel) were disappointed with the final project.
I have mixed feelings about Lee's film myself. On the one hand, it is an epic, big budget version of a 1950s B-horror movie, which makes it legitimate subject matter for Fear Zone (Stan Lee conceived the character as a cross between Frankenstein's ... (more…)

Here's the final poster for INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE LOST SKULL. It's nice to see Karen Allen (ANIMAL HOUSE, STARMAN) getting some space; I met her at Chiller Theatre, where she was the only guest I asked for an autograph (on my DVD of THE WANDERERS). That was shortly after her "comeback" in THE PERFECT STORM. I've watched the trailer for this film a couple of times, and despite some WAY obvious CGI, I'm really looking forward to it.
